Episode 14: The No Budget Shoot

June 19, 2008

budget photography imageIf you are looking at getting into part-time or full-time shooting, here’s one way to drum-up some exposure and portfolio samples.

For this episode, we step away from our normal baby photo tips and cover a technique you can use to get some great portfolio shots while having fun doing the photography you want to do!

Show Notes:

- The blog I mentioned is my Austin photographer blog. My twitter account is ericdoggett if you’d like to follow.

- I am using this to build up my portrait/commercial portfolio, but you could just as easily apply it to any type of photography.

- I usually offer to give them the image or prints in exchange for their time.

- It’s important to sell people on the idea, so put some thought into what you want to do, and be excited! People will pick up your energy and get interested in helping you make your images!

- These are only for non-paying gigs - for example, a local magazine wouldn’t be able to take advantage of this. I’m only interested in people that want to participate and wouldn’t normally be able to have a session like this. They are always more into it!

- No STB episode next week - I’ll be gone for a week in Florida, and I don’t think the wife will let me take the laptop! :)
