Great tip. I used it to brighten up some outdoor portraits where the people were a little shadowed in front. Made the picture actually worth framing. Keep up the good work!

Oh this is great, Eric, my son is just now 2.5 and the other day I saw him grab my old P&S, pretend to take a picture and then look at the LCD and say, "That's cute!". We were looking into kid friendly digicams for him in preparation for our newest addition so he wouldn't feel left out of the hustle and bustle. Great article. Thanks!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am new to photography, and love to take pics of my kids. Your videos are funny, helpful, refreshing and... just plain funny. But most of all, you are giving away some secrets that will help all of us novice photographers make for a better photo with our soemtimes fussy and non-compliant children. WELL DONE! And, did I say, thank you...

Hey Myles -

Thanks for visiting the site! My first question would always be 'what type of shooting are you planning on doing?' :) But for general shooting, I'd take a look at the following:

- extra battery (definitely)

- more than one memory card (in case there's an issue with your main card, you should have a backup).

- a small case to keep memory cards in (they usually hold 4-6 at a time).
- a good strap!

- a polarizer. *if* you are doing a lot of nature/outdoor shooting, you might want to play with one of these. Personally, I don't use one that often anymore, because shooting babies and weddings requires a lot of fast shooting, so I don't have time to take them off and put them back on/etc. But you might enjoy one.

- a good bag. For portrait/wedding work, I use Jessica Claire's ShootSac. I've met her before and she has really come up with a nice 'around town' bag that allows quick access.

I hope this helps!

Hey, found this website on Alltop.com

Just got an XTi last week and I'm trying to figure out what I should nab right away for some accessories. I'm looking at obviously a nice Lowepro case/backpack, a tripod, extra battery or two and a telephoto lens to start.

I am kind of debating the battery grip. The Canon model seems to be around $150, Targus for around $90–100 and [insert sketchy brand name] around $35–40.

I don't really have a special area I photograph more than any other as of right now, though mostly outside stuff so far. But are there any sort of general accessories you would consider must haves for general photography?

Thanks from Canada,
Myles

While shooting in low light can be tricky with an iPhone, it actually does quite well for a camera phone in a concert environment. See some examples at www.flickr.com/groups/concertiphone
